Disability by Aaron Kiousis

What is a disability?
Who declares you are disabled?
Him, Her, Them?
From your Head to your toes
The unrighteous wars
Limbs ripped torso stripped to ribbons
In deserts and marsh lands
The bottle or a pill to fill the void
From the cradle to the grave
The Pampers to the Depends
Nubs from loose hubs
“Take my strange hand!”
Singing like a free bird
That’s locked in an eagle
These all come to mind when I think of disability.
But for every disability I feel likes the ability to overcome things that hold us back.
The ability to build character, strength, hope
The key word ABILITY

Who WOuld of Thought by Aaron Kiousis and Rebecca Scroggins

her heart is guarded,
her tongue is shy,
her love is broken--

his heart is rough edged,
his tongue at times wily,
his love is out spoken--

“he doesn’t know why!”

“she hasn’t the slightest!”

she pours her feelings
onto the page.--

with every letter reading
is their life’s voyage.--

behind the pen
she’ll find a way.--

time and again
he is taken away.--

his words are moving
opening doors…
she not sure
they’ve been opened before.--

their love truly hand woven
abstract like Salvador’s
he’s sure will endure
with the rest of time to explore.--

they fell in love on paper,
the pen carved the way.--

enough to be a bookkeeper
penmanship like sword play.--

now they’ll walk down
the aisle.--

together their vows are
deeply internal.--

and have a beautiful
babe. <3

who would of thought
this.

Silence Speaks by Aaron Kiousis

I don’t speak,
Not one peep.
What I convey
I say with
Only my eyes
With my gaze
Deep it cuts

I don’t speak,
Not one peep.
Pivot of body,
Should turned cold
Disappointment filled within
Makes you sad.

I don’t speak,
Not one peep.
Wave of hand
Brushes you off
Annoyed we both feel.

I don’t speak
Not one peep.
I just stare,
You start crying.

I don’t speak,
Not one peep.
Silence can hurt!

I don’t speak,
Not one peep.
What I convey
In my smile
Contiguous it is,
Warms your heart,
Brings many hugs!

I don’t speak,
Not one peep.
Pep in step,
lightens the mood,
inviting your presents,
brings you joy.

I don’t speak,
not one peep.
Peace sign up,
cherished moments passed
Connected we feel.

I don’t speak
Not one peep.
I just watch
you do too.

I don’t speak,
not one peep.
Silence can speak!

Language to Me by Aaron Kiousis

It’s hard sometimes, to distinguish
the various tones and sound of the human language,
mainly used to communicate,
express thoughts, share feelings.
Until lately-i feel it’s more used
With underlining hate, intention to maim.
Still… i choose to use an emphasis of love,
inspiring, like the first flight of a freed dove.
It has entwined my roots, allowed me
to grow like a great tree,
helped me to establish that which is me.
From one ear to the next it can sound so different;
Understanding can paint a picture so vibrant.

Ode to my Hands by Aaron Kiousis

I reached out and feel
soft, hard, cold, wet, warm to burly hot.
With them, I’ve been known to heal.
With one of them I would be not.
They help me to appreciate and love life.
Take what’s upstairs and creases it
into the physical plane.
All for the sake of keeping me sane.
Covered in scars, you moved in time
lined with small rivers of blood,
you crock there staring distastefully at me.
Donned with inseparable digits
with two that are midgets.
You help me keep a hold on this life.
