Dear world,
I would like to talk about what returning home means, but first I would like talk about the experience of prison and the system. I know you’ve probably read about prison or seen it on the movies and thought wow! Prison is tough, there’s people being raped, stabbed, and killed. Then there’s the terrible food they eat, or the constant degrading from the officers. Now those things still exist, but prison is much more than just that. It all starts from the corporations. Take CCA for example a private institution owned by a billionaire. How much of these billions do you think is invested in our rehabilitation maybe 1% and even if its more the wardens probably don’t stress the rehabilitation and if they do the staff aren’t doing their best job. So when we speak on returning home. Most people in prison will return home the same way they left because of the lack of attentiveness they have after were sentence. There are some programs they have for prisoners but if you have a long sentence you can’t get in them. Now what difference will 6 months make when I spent 10 years uneducated, lazy, violent and reckless. Slim to none, only if you take the initiative yourself, to be better, to change, and learn from your mistakes and find your purpose will you be rehabilitated. For me returning home means I have a second chance to be positive, productive, and progressive in my community and in my everyday life. Returning home can be difficult without a support group, family, friends, etc… I’m blessed to have family who still loves me and that enables me to take my time, be patient because I have a place to sleep, and food to eat. You must have a plan, preferably a positive one something to keep you moving forward. Having a plan, setting goals and managing your priorities are all important aspects of returning home. I plan on returning home and applying for a job, something to assist me with my needs. I also want to major in business management and minor in psychology. I know I can’t afford the college tuition so I will apply for financial aid. Getting a job and applying for college will be my biggest priorities when I return home. Those will be short-term goals for me. Returning home is an opportunity for me to build trust with my family, and show them the true love that they deserve. Helping the youth is very important to me as well, in a world so corrupt I would like to teach them values and resources instead of entertainment. I want to let them know the world will be better if they have love in their hearts and become educated on how to heal the world and make it better in the future. So no I don’t fear returning home I’m excited about the opportunity to return home because I have so much to give to the world and once I return home my voice can be heard. To sum this up we must make the most out of the situations we’re in. If we prepare ourselves for the future (our returning home) we can live good lives taking one step at a time. Sincerely, Nado Jenkins
