A Plea to Clarity by Austin

6/20/2019

don't go
stay
come back, please

when sound judgement sways
you set it right
when blood boils
you cool it running through its veins
when dark surrender beckons
you gently set my gaze afar
to give me peace and hope

o clarity, you are fickle
like all life's greatest gifts
you are a wave that crashes
not to be understood
in your comings and goings
what calls you forth
or draws you away

but I beg you, stay
my wretched flounderings
yield only to your power
come, stay a while please
let me climb upon your shoulder
carry me kindly through, set me at ease

What is Left by Austin

I've nothing more
with which to make you fall in love.
no things attached to memories
no words to make you laugh

I have given all there is
and it is tucked away
boxed and forgotten and you will not read it again
from the sublime season of our meeting
no souvenirs are left to give

now withered and displaced
squeezed tight for all there was -
a voice over the line
a troubled, troubling soul
running over recollections
of the happiest I'd been
hoping you were too -
is all I am

so little in my life, worth memory
what rare occurrences of joy I see
the beauty in these, fleeting, stays for me

but only me.

On Ending at a Peak by Austin

perhaps it is so
and we do not know it
that the ache is what we seek
what we long for is the more bitter end.
our pain made stronger
the greater joy there was in the pursuit

there is fight enough in none of us
to will it life
we seek what is special
serendipitous and unique
to root deeper agony when it dies
to sate veiled strange desires of our heart

it seems in our nature to destroy
and to enjoy the killing more
for thwarting such rare majesty
so it seems to be.

Woe, Indeed (A Song) by Austin

gentle and slow
your knife
slid unfelt, it reached my heart

work to the bone
my life
sworn in earnest, torn apart

oath breaker
infidel
watch me crawl away
broken
blinded
born to lose my way

hands bleed, open
dire
greedy mouth feeds, swallowing

promise nothing
liar
leave me here now, wallowing

beg not solace
begone
kill again, away from here

wasted all this
move on
all my sorrow, all my fear

Up the Sky by Austin

a peaceful walk home
in slate black of a clouded winter night
whose false stars fall idly
lamp-lit drifting in their millions
quietly they rush by
down and down, hushing humming earth

a hoisted gaze
lost in them, tumbling I reel
perception adrift, gravity relenting
now a dizzying walk out and up the sky
one with the swirling crowd
settling gently earthward.
